Trappings: Stories of Women, Power
and Clothing - The Tennessee Sessions
Nashville International Airport, September 6 - November
27, 2005
Exhibition Description
Trappings: Stories of Women, Power and Clothing – The Tennessee Sessions,
at the Nashville International Airport, featured women who participated in Trappings interview
sessions in Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis Tennessee in October 2002. The
exhibition featured 20 portraits and audio interviews which were experienced
on cell phones. The artists presented the audio works on the airport's voicemail
system, which was heard by dialing the phone number associated with each portrait.
This Trappings exhibition was designed to meet varied attention levels
of travelers. Viewers who spent two seconds with the installation will be compelled
by the project question: what do you wear that makes you feel powerful?,
which was dominantly displayed in the exhibition corridor. Viewers could also
choose to spend more time with the photographs, reading short excerpts of the
women's interviews. People who had the most time to spend with the installation
listened to a series of twenty audio works of the women's interviews, hearing
the voices of the women presented in the photographs.
Two Girls Working will travel this exhibition to different communities
in Tennessee. If you are interested in hosting the exhibition,
email trappings@twogirlsworking.com.
To
visit this exhibition you must be a ticketed passenger traveling
