Trappings
Durham Arts Council,
December 6, 2002 -
January 5, 2003
Two Girls Working's installation of Trappings at the Durham Arts Council
celebrated the first year of Trappings interviews, featuring women from
New York , New Jersey , North Carolina , Mississippi and Tennessee . The exhibition
had two parts, each containing photos and audio interviews that gallery viewers
heard on personal cd players.
On the two walls of the main gallery, 11 of the women who have participated in
the project were presented in large scale digital prints accompanied by six individual
audio works, which the gallery viewers experienced on cd players carried in artist-designed
purses. The audio works presented all of the women in dialogue with each other
on topics that are related to clothing and power including work, social status,
sex and gender, transformation, personal power, and money.
